When it comes to measures of central tendency or location, the arithmetic mean and the median get a lot of praise. Other measures such as the trimmed mean, geometric mean and so on also get some mention. But what about the mode?
Even the mode is useful sometimes! In particular, it can be very useful when you are dealing with count variables.
The mean number of legs in adult humans is about 1.97. The mean number of testicles is right around 1. And, of course, the average person has a fractional house and some fractional kids.
The modal value is what is wanted in those cases.
